It's common to feel overwhelmed by the idea of shopping for individual health insurance, particularly if you've never actually had to use anything other than an employer's group health coverage. In some cases, a tight budget or looming debt might even make a young, healthy adult wonder if it's a good idea to even bother with any sort of health insurance. It's certainly true that nobody likes to dwell on dismal "what-if" scenarios, and having a little extra cash on hand every month--even if only for a little while--is undeniably a very tempting prospect.
If you think you'd prefer to simply "do without" health insurance, there are some important issues to consider. The first is probably the most obvious, but it should still be said: having at least a basic health insurance policy can prevent serious financial difficulties down the road, as anybody who has unexpectedly needed medical treatment while uninsured can readily confirm. In addition, having health insurance actually makes it easier to keep an accurate and consistent budget by taking out much of the guesswork and uncertainty about future medical expenses. Something else to keep in mind is continuity--maintaining health insurance (even if you don't think you'll really need it) over a long, unbroken stretch of time makes it much easier to obtain a higher-quality, lower-cost health policy later on, when you feel you're more likely to need it.
Most of those who feel this way don't like to admit it, but there is another important reason that we sometimes to shy away from the prospect of buying an individual health insurance policy. Simply put, we dread the hassle having to grit our teeth and actually shop around for the policy that we need. Nobody really likes filling out paperwork, answering tedious and embarrassing health questions, or going from one company to the next to the next, comparing quotes and wondering whether the offers we've been getting are actually reasonable. For some of us, there simply doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to get all these things done. The good news is that this isn't actually true.
The key to taking most of the stress out of insurance shopping is to realize that there are actually ways to cut large chunks of work out of this whole process. The most important thing, in this and any other important matter, is to keep informed. A few minutes spent checking customer reviews on each company, looking up the exact meaning of words you're not sure about, and reading up on each insurer's payout rates can easily save you hours of frustration and wasted effort. The second most important thing is minimize the amount of effort you have to expend comparing policies and rate quotes--if you're visiting each company's website individually to request quotes, then you're probably spending far more time and energy than necessary. Instead, consider making use of web-based services that automatically request quotes from insurers on your behalf.
The most important thing to remember is that health insurance companies are just like any other business: if you don't like an offer that one makes, don't be afraid to take your money somewhere else.
I was very pleased and I recommended you already.

You did a great job on getting quotes on different health-insurance plans. I was surprized at how fast I received them. All the agents that contacted me were very nice. Thank you

I spoke to an agent - she was wonderful! Thanks so much. She listened closely to what I needed, and gave the advice that was best for ME not one that made her money.
